AWS Outage Update — October 20, 2025

This morning, a major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage caused widespread disruption across the United States. The incident began early Monday in the US-EAST-1 region, one of AWS’s largest data centers, and affected numerous online tools, websites, and applications — including many that do not host directly on AWS but rely on its infrastructure.

According to AWS, the root issue involved internal service dependencies and network connectivity within that region. Service disruptions began around 3:00 a.m. ET and gradually improved as systems were restored throughout the morning. By approximately 6:30 a.m. ET, most AWS services were reported as operational, though some residual latency and connection errors may still occur for certain users.

How This May Affect Businesses

Because so many online platforms depend on AWS for hosting, data storage, and APIs, the outage temporarily impacted a wide range of services — from communications and e-commerce to financial and productivity tools. Businesses that host applications, databases, or backups in AWS regions connected to US-EAST-1 may have experienced:

  • Delayed access to cloud-based files or dashboards
  • Inability to log in to third-party applications
  • Intermittent connection failures

Layer One Networks Services

Layer One Networks systems remain operational. However, some clients who rely on AWS-hosted applications or tools may have seen temporary slowdowns or connection errors unrelated to our own infrastructure. These effects are now resolving as AWS restores full service.

Our internal monitoring tools confirm that client backups and core services remain intact, and no data loss has been reported.

What We’re Doing

  • We continue to monitor cloud service stability and review any indirect impact on client environments.
  • Our team is verifying system health across all managed networks.
  • We will share updates only if further issues arise.

WHAT USERS CAN DO:
If you experienced issues interacting with our network this morning, here are a few tips:
1. Retry your request: After a cloud-provider outage is mitigated, residual latency or backlog may still cause intermittent issues.

2. Clear your browser cache: Sometimes cached DNS or API endpoint information may delay recovery for end-users.

3. Report issues: If you continue to face interruptions, please submit a support request or raise a ticket so we can assess whether the problem is systemic or isolated — response times may be longer than usual as we assist affected clients. https://l1n.com/contact-us/

Looking Ahead

While major outages like this are uncommon, they highlight the importance of multi-region backups and business continuity planning. Layer One Networks clients already benefit from these built-in safeguards, designed to help restore data and minimize downtime if a third-party service interruption occurs.

If your organization experienced an interruption today and would like to review your cloud recovery strategy, our support team is available to answer questions.
